Interesting Facts About Wormald Safes and Kumahira Safes - Part I

The Safecorp Group started operations in 1884, trading as Victoria Safe Company manufacturing safes. The original factory was situated in South Melbourne, a suburb of Melbourne Victoria until 1929, then it was moved to Brunswick. During the 1930's and through to the 1950's, other well known safe companies at the time had a strong presence including Milners Safe Co, Ajax Safes, Pioneer Safes, all maintaining a significant presence in Victoria well into the 1960's. The Victoria Safe Company eventually out grew the opposition safe manufacturers to become one of Victoria's largest safe manufacturers, second only to Chubb Safes. In 1968 the Victoria Safe Co was acquired by Wormald Safes and Security and John Tann Safes UK who at the time were Britain's second largest safe manufacturer. The new owners traded as Wormald Safes-John Tann Safes (AUST) and 4 years later Wormald Safes acquired the John Tann share and began operations as Wormald Safe and Vault Company.

Being the leading safe manufacturer, Wormald Safe and Vault expanded the company's range of fire resistant safe and also acquired the Kumahira safe agency from Japan during this strong growth period. Wormald Safe And Vaults won several Government contracts and improved its safe and vault technology to the extent where it became an approved supplier to all Banking and Financial institutions. In 1985 Wormalds Safes and Vaults management was bought out and the new company traded as Australia Safe Company.
