Small safes for storing gold

There has been a significant increase in demands on small safes for storing jewellery or gold. This increase is seen in the previous decade, largely due to global instability.

People often want a smaller safe because they fall into the belief that smaller safes are easier to hide and therefore more difficult for burglars and thieves to break in. This however is not true in a real life scenario. If a burglar is inside your home, you must anticipate that he/she will find your safe, and in this case your safe should serve its purpose and be firmly anchored to the floor. Safes come in a variety of grading and prices, from cheap safes you find in hardware chain stores, to premium quality banker grade safes. The higher end safes are built to resist criminal break-ins, in fact I’ve never heard of a burglar breaking into a bankers grade safe in Australia.

So the first thing you need to consider when selecting a safe is to check it’s ‘cash rating’ or ‘insurance rating’. This gives you an indication on how resistant this particular safe is against criminal attacks. For example, if you have $30,000 worth of jewellery and gold you wish to store in the safe, then you need to look for a safe with a cash rating higher than $30,000.

There is a very limited number of small safes with high cash rating, this is mainly due to two reasons:

  1. In order to make the safe tough and resistant to majority criminal attacks, the safe must be constructed of steel and/or concrete with large and strong bolts & hinges. This means smaller safes with this kind of construction would significantly reduce the interior space due to the thick walls, this means the safe wouldn’t be as practical because the inner volume wouldn’t allow much things to be stored within it.
  2. The demand for tiny high grade safe is small compared to other types of safes.

Due to the reasons stated above, the choices are very limited choices for you if you’re looking for a compact safe to store your jewellery or gold. In most cases you would end up with a small and weak one in the hope that criminals won’t be able to find it, or a high grade safe that is more difficult to hide but will be a lot more resistant to burglary attacks making criminals give up and flee.

The most popular small safe that satisfies both the size and cash rating requirements is the Guardall KCR510. It has a cash rating of $250,000 and a fire rating of 60 minutes. The size of this safe is h 510mm by w 435mm by d 450mm. It weighs 240kg and is fitted with a digital keypad. This heavy duty 32mm bolt work secures multiple locking points around the door. The safe body is constructed of hardened high density concrete and barrier materials which provides exceptional strength and security of the highest level in all 6 sides of the safe. The safe door provides maximum security of a thick defensive steel slab section of special materials that provides an outstanding defense against attacks. The dual mechanical re-locking systems will be automatically activated by blocking the retraction of the bolt work should the safe be dislodged, forced or attacked.
