Which safe is right for your needs?
The number one most important question to ask yourself is what you intend to store and protect in your safe. Will you be storing cash, other valuables, paper documents or computer data?
What type of protection do I need?
There are two main types of protection being burglary protection or fire protection. Although some safes provide combined protection for those who demand a higher safeguard for their valuables for double peace of mind.
Burglary resistant safes offer protection for your expensive items, cash or sentimental irreplaceable jewellery items. They usually come in different levels of security protection being standard security, medium security, high security and maximum security. Depending of the level of security of the safe it is given a cash rating. This is an indication of the level of storage of accumulated items combined such as jewellery, cash or valuables would be recommended to be stored in the safe in an overnight situation. Usually the higher the cash rating the more secure the safe is.
What is the right fire resisting safe I need?
When deciding on the correct fire rated safe, first determine if you want to protect and store documents only or also computer media data, because many fire resistant safes are designed to offer fire protection for important papers or documents such as passports, wills, birth certification or titles, etc. These will not provide protection to magnetic media although some fire resistant safes offer both being fire & data media protection safes.
Fire resistant safes often come with different levels of fire ratings these indicates the level of fire resisting it provides. For example, it may be a standard 30 minutes fire rating, medium 60 minutes fire rating, high 90 minutes fire rating and maximum 120 minutes plus fire rating.
Other significant things to consider before you buy your safe are:
What location will you place it in?
Always check the safes external dimensions against the dimensions of the area you have chosen to install the sae to make sure it will fit.
What size safe do I need?
A good tip on picking the correct size safe is to place all the items that you want to store together and see their combined size, keeping in mind to allow a bit more room for items you may accumulate in the future. So it’s a smart idea to go a bit larger now than you think you need. Remember to always check the safe’s internal dimensions, as more often than not many safes are smaller on the inside than you anticipate.
What is the safest locking option?
The locking option you choose doesn’t necessarily compromise the safes security. It’s more about the ease of use. The various options are key locking, digital keypad locking, combination dial locking, finger scan locking and dual locking, which means a combination of two locks such as key & combination locking or digital & key locking, etc.
