Forgotten your passcode? Don't panic

Have you ever found yourself in this situation? You haven’t used your safe in a while, in fact, it’s been so long that you’re unsure of the passcode anymore. You are beginning to feel anxious and are unsure of what to do. Don’t panic, there are a few things you can do to get yourself out of the situation.

  1. Do you have a key override?

Many safes have a backup key override system. You can quickly and easily regain access to your safe by using the key instead of the code. When you purchased your safe, you would have gotten this key. We’re hoping you stored it at a safe pace for situations like this. A competent Locksmith will be able to make a new key and bypass the lock on your safe if you’ve also lost the key to it. If you have any problems, please contact us.

  1. Try emergency code override

When your safe doesn’t have a key override option, an emergency code can usually be used to open it. It takes specialised tools to add this code to the safe, which will enable it to open. This is not something that every Locksmiths has. In the event that you need this service, please give us a call on 1300 764 971.

  1. Avoid forgetting the passcode

Remembering all the passcode, pins and security digits we use on a daily basis may be challenging. Not to mention the infrequently used ones. It is advisable to keep the safe code extremely cleverly hidden or to use a number that has personal significance to you that no one else would know. Think of a clever way to conceal a copy of your code, may it be a crypted message in the shopping list on your fridge, or a post it note hidden inside a particular book.

The options you have for recovering the passcode for your safe varies depending on which model of safe you have. For instance, the passcode recovery options would be different for a Guardian Drug Safe GDS8D to a Falcon Deposit Safe RDS2. If you have exhausted all the options mentioned here, it is always wise to speak with a licensed Safe Specialist. Make sure the Safe Specialist you decide to go with has all their accreditation and current licences on file.

If you have any further questions, feel free to give Safeguard Safes a call on 1300 764 971, and we’ll be glad to help. For the time being, if you find yourself in the situation where you’ve forgotten your passcode, don’t panic, your things will definitely be safe locked in the safe, it’s just a matter of time before you can get the safe open to access them.
