The removal of strongroom and vault doors throughout Victoria, NSW and Queensland sounds easy, yet it can be a difficult and daunting task. The majority of vaults and strongrooms are found within commercial premises. In order to minimise the impact on commercial trading, we often schedule and complete the task after hours.
In Australia, we typically see two different types of doors and two different types of vaults.
The first type is known as “insitu vaults,” which is a vault or strongroom that has been built into the structure. Strongroom became a standard requirement when banks first began opening branches across Australia. However, they soon discovered that the expense they spent on these strongrooms was not recoupable after a branch was closed, Therefore they requested that any new vaults be detachable or modular, so that when the bank vacates the building, these modular vaults could be simply removed because they were “bolted together.” Both in-place and modular vaults typically have doors connected, which are typically bankers-grade and weigh about 1400 kg, such as the CMI Commander Strongroom Door CRD4.
The second type is known as a “bookroom”, they have a very similar outer appearance to any typical strongroom doors, but it is not an actual strongroom door. These book-room doors are not made to withstand a robbery attempt, they are only used for guarding the storage of documents and records. Banks often had other Banker quality heavy safes positioned within the same premises. Bookroom doors are in high demand for usage in armouries. Although they typically weigh between 14 and 32 tonnes and may require a little more work to install.
Since most people want to make use of the space available, it’s extremely normal to remove a bankers grade doors. It is more unusual to remove the door and frame because it is so much more difficult to do it.
