Shop for the strongest safe in Australia

The strongest safe in Australia is a topic on which I could easily write a lengthy article. From over 35 years of Safeguard Safes operating in the security safe business, we have successfully opened a lot of safes. You could say we have “manipulated” them open. It requires a great deal of expertise and dexterity to figure out the combination’s numbers without in any way harming the safe.

The Chubb Isolator is, in my opinion, the strongest safe available in Australia. For this title, the Wormald 8000 series is a strong contender as well. Both have different defences from what I experienced when I unlocked them.

In April of 2016, I received a request to open a number of safes for several Airlie Beach banks. A huge retail centre fire had been burning for around three hours. The bank needed to know if the contents of the safes, which had been completely burned, had survived. The handle and spin dials had melted away, the doors were buckled, and I thought the exercise was rather meaningless. The safes had to be unlocked regardless.

The Wormald 8000 was opened in 11 hours. The glass relocking mechanisms had definitely activated, it was therefore impossible to crack easily. All the critical components are safeguarded from drill or angle grinder attack by glass relockers. There is no other option but to cut them open after they “fire.” We got to work with all the cutting-edge equipment available, and it took 11 hours with 3 men.

The Chubb Isolator is another super strong safe that takes similar amount of time to crack.  These safes were produced in the 1980s and 1990s, a time when accountants had no influence over the price of security. As a result, the engineering and craftsmanship were of world class. Sadly modern safes are not built with such standards anymore.

The rating system used in Europe ranges from grade 1 to grade 7. Chubb safes only imports grade 5 safes to Australia. You can browse the Chubb Grade V range with two sizes available, and both have a cash rating of $300,000. Chubb Europa Grade V Safe 5CK and Chubb Europa Grade V Safe 5DK has an external dimension of 1468 x 668 x 773, while Chubb Europa Grade V Safe 6CK and Chubb Europa Grade V Safe 6DK has an external dimension of 1796 x 903 x 663.

Another great grade 5 safe is the CMI Commander range. Both the Chubb Europa grade V and CMI Commander safe range are currently on the market and, depending on size, the price between $6000.00-$23500.

Although the Australian market may be too small compared to Europe and America standard of strong safe manufacturing, Safeguard Safes stock a wide range of products that complies to the European and American standards. The American grading system is similar to the European ones, the difference is that it tests on the safe’s ability to fend off a group of criminals who are fully equipped. The team tests everything in accordance with Australian Standards and is a member of the Underwriters Laboratory.

Australian standards are excellent, however no independent testing has been carried out for safes. The only safe that has so far passed the one Australian standard for safe is the Chubb Europa range. This proves it is a very tough safe, it means Chubb safes have gotten over the numerous hurdles that have been put in their way.

Another competitor for the strongest safe in Australia is the Dominator FX80 Jewellery grade safe. Although it can’t be compared to old safes such as the Chubb Isolator and ASC 8000, it stands strong in today’s market. The Dominator FX80 safe has a TL30x6 UL rating, which indicates that the safe passed the rigorous TL30 safe test. TL30 safe test means the Criminals can attack the safe from 6 sides, but they can’t create a 100mm diameter hole within 30 minutes. Even though 30 minutes doesn’t seem like much, we’re talking about using multiple tools in a tag team situation. They use a stopwatch which only starts when the user has his tools resting on the safe. If he needs to take time resharpening or retools, the timer would be indicated to stop. According to some , the TL30 is equivalent to 90 minutes, which is a typical criminal attack period.

The FX80 is a short squat safe with dimensions of 800 x 790 x 750. It has an unsupported cash rating of $90,000 (which I think is a very conservative measurement) and weighs 825 kg,. A cash rating that is unsupported lacks a backup alarm. The cash rating might increase to $180,000 if an alarm is installed. Although the price of this premium safe is still being worked out, it will probably retail for roughly $4680.
